Dj Moderno “Tus Ojos”

“Tus Ojos” is a fantastic track from Dj Moderno’s latest album La nave nodriza. His smooth vocal feels dreamy and unapproachable at times, yet he brings you closer to the psychedelic visions under the night light. “Tus Ojos” features energy-splashing beats and bombastic bass in swirling colors. It can be overwhelming at times, pacing you in the neon-gazed soundscapes with lightning, dazzling sensations.

The energy-lifting track is stadium-filling. From the very first note, “Tus Ojos” fills any night club with its swirling imageries and ground-shaking beats. The elements of rock and electronic are so wonderfully and seamlessly woven together that reminds you Willy Wonka’s waterfall made of chocolate. Only in here, Dj Moderno mixes his influences and ideas with music, traceless yet breathable.

“Tus Ojos” can be the perfect workout music that takes you mind off any tiredness or pain. It’s a track that your hips would agree a lot with. It draws you in and lifts you off of your feet while entrancing you with the forward-moving skyscape. The entire album seems perfect for a dance night out. It has a touch of 80s nostalgia in the sound, but the everlasting beats filled with imaginations and new sonic palettes are something you could never get tired of.

The music video of “Tus Ojos” gives some additional context to what the track is about. “Tus Ojos” is essentially inspired by a toxic relationship and a chaotic night where a lot of has happened. However, the music video seems to really sheds a new light on the colorism and sonic palette and the very specific theme park sensation and the idea of spinning out of control that generally listeners wouldn’t be thinking about upon first listening.

MEMORY MOTEL “HAZEL EYES”

“HAZEL EYES” seems to be more on the edge of being ever more expansive. The latest release from MEMORY MOTEL sees an explosive drum wrapped in a silky synth sensitivity. The up-tempo track is overwhelming and immersive. like the hurricane, it immediately takes you with its swirling psychedelic, hysteric storm.

One thing that makes this track so fascinating is the layers of vocals that present an interchangeable, fluid-like flow that sinks and flows, riding the waves. At times, the sweet sultry vocal of Ruby Ward takes you down a secret passage of intoxicating fruity imaginations. The other times, Ben Perry-led vocal fills the space with more angsty, emotive longings that feel more than ever aching and cathartic. The obscurity around the two of them give the track many of its best moments. It’s hard to really know for sure what is happening, but the color keeps changing and the wheels keep on spinning.

“HAZEL EYES” definitely feels more angst-filled on top of its everlasting dreamful sensations, where the hormones in the air wakes you from those lucid wet dreams. A touch of melancholia takes you down a nostalgic memory lane. It seems to recall something from the childhood, innocent, lingering and beautiful, at the same time, the unstoppable force that pushes every one of us forward is wrapped in the anxious overflowing thoughts and thoughtlessness.

From every note to every word, “HAZEL EYES” is highly relatable. It directly interacts with those overwhelming feelings and thoughts that seem to stop at the tip of your tongues and solidifies theme with the swirling, sultry, ever changing soundscapes.

FLOTSZAM “Under the Same Sky”

“Under the Same Sky” opens with a deep, cloudy soundscape that has your heart aches and your ears rain. That’s kind of connection and effects FLOTZSAM’s songwriting has. Her floral, smoky vocal draws you into a timeless folkloric melancholia where moods and tastes of sun, moon, and clouds all come into play. Written on a stormy day after the Brexit vote and Trump’s election, FLOTSZAM wrote “Under the Same Sky,” finding hope and dream in her music and the sky.

“Under the Same Sky” creates the long-reaching stillness while its imagination and visualizations takes off like birds flying across the continent. The track itself embraces a multi-faceted sensitivity where the modern-gazed trip-hop tiptoes in an indie-pop, singer-songwriter charm. It’s deeply emotional and connecting, where so many different feelings freely expressing themselves through her poetic vocal performance and the cries and mourns from the cello.

“Under the Same Sky” addresses moments in a world that seems to swirl back into darkness. For many, the ride of roller coaster continues on, weighing heavily on their mental health while they concerns for their safety and a tomorrow that won’t be bathed in sunshines. Sara De Sanctis “Fading”

Time seems to move faster when Sara De Sanctis is on the radio. “Fading” is one in particular that almost upsets you when it ends. Besides her intoxicating vocal and poised songwriting, the track embraces a filmic sparseness and captivation that feels so elegant and poignant. There’s heavy classical elegance in it, but Sara De Sanctis delivers a melancholy, out-of-this-world aesthetic that’s hard to shake off.

“Fading” is about obsession and losing control of oneself, which the sonic deterioration depicts. Impressionistic but rich of stories, like soundtracks in a film that decorates and infects the mood and atmospheric. Her floral vocal of a vivid color. It feels like the ocean waves at times, salty and humid; then at other times, it’s like roses at night, urban, intoxicating with fragments.

Sara De Sanctis’ piano flows through her every single piece. It lays the foundation, but there’s always soul in her playing. Whenever the rhythm, the pace, the pattern changes, it breathes in and breathes out. On the other hand, Thom Yorke’s influence on “Fading” is quite obvious. The track embraces The Smile type of splattering drums that flows through the slow-burning, moody brew. There’s also a hint of Yorke’s highly artistic aesthetic in play in this track, it’s introspective but textural.

Sara De Sanctis is trained in the classical way as pianist. She parted ways when discovered her love in original composition and singer-songwriting. There’s no doubt about her talent in the path she chose. Her sound reminds listeners of a sensitive Agnes Obel and textural yet unique PJ Harvey.

Itay Kashti “EU Democracy”

Itay Kashti’s music sounds like the soundtrack from your favorite movie. They are warm with emotions and rich stories, even though they may not have any words in itself. As a seasoned producer for so many artists that Kashti himself can’t count the number, his personal project seems to preserve the beautiful moments, the strongest commentary, and the most special experience with a minimalistic approach. There’s no heavy lifting in the production itself, but it produces such a rich and emotive downtempo experience, navigating through different emotions with sparse but captivating melodic ideas.

“EU Democracy” is a thought provoking instrumental piece that blends electronic, synth and atmospheric guitar into a cinematic lo-fi track that shimmers through the night sky. Even with a more cynical theme, the track doesn’t lack Kashti’s warmth and storytelling. It’s perfect for a down time, just to listen and contemplate the track itself, and textural enough for study or meditation. That’s the special beauty about Kashti’s personal project. There seems to be multiple purposes with these tracks. They are simply perfect under different moods and circumstances. There’s not a place or mood you can’t listen to them.

Kashti’s guitar work is another work of beauty. They are the souls that hold the piece together, but rarely are they popping out the way like a big personality killer solo. They are humble and brilliant, mending into the background with other instruments, just making the surroundings much brighter and more vivid without everyone consciously noticing them, although they are hard to miss once you pay special attention. The tones are always of a delicate grace with the beat and the synth.

Itay Kashti is the type of artist that once you get to know his music, there’s no stopping in listening. All the tracks are linked in a way, lifting you up, making you aware about something you may have missed in life.

Khadija “Tired But I Can't Sleep”

Everyone can sing, but no one else can sing like Khadija. Khadija has the vocal tone of a superstar. Her vocal has so much nuance and facets that hearing her music is like a journey to discover just how many different personalities that she can effortlessly be in one song. The multi-faceted artist is no doubt very skillful and versatile. Khadija seems to be in full control, artistically and personally. She knows exactly the sounds she wants to achieve with her voice and she brings the best to her listeners.

“Tired But I Can’t Sleep” delivers a highly engaging experience on an artistic and emotional level. Her music is a brilliant blend of exotica, spirituality and soul with a pinch of quirkiness and laughter. “Tired But I Can’t Sleep” tackles those trippy dizziness and frustration of the in-between feeling a person gets when they’re exhausted but still awake. Hearing the little details, like frictions, little electricity in Khadija’s voice is such an incredible experience. The backdrops certainly emphasize her vocal performance, being the dark contrasting the light.

The innocence and sweetness and laziness and fruitfulness all seem to tell different sides of the story. And then, there’s mystery and complexity in the song that Khadija so perfectly channeled. She’s versatile and full of energy. Unpredictable, like the weather, but she amazes you of the spectacular phenomena that you get to witness along the journey.

“Tired But I Can’t Sleep” marks the second official original release from Khadija. It pushes towards a dazzling climax, heating towards a powerful vocal moment. It seems to illuminates and elevates while really wrenching listeners’ heart as it gets more intense, massive and drastic.

The track continues a similar aesthetic from her debut release “Let it Go, Let Be,” where her singing is more of an art expression than purely being a music track. Khadija delivers such a satisfying listening experience that only Billie Eilish type of A-list artists could deliver. It’s not a surprise that a voice like hers gets featured in The Voice UK. The only surprise would be, how come she isn’t signed to a major label? One thing that’s for sure: Khadija surely deserves major exposure and her own cult followings.

Elsdeer “Ten Years Time”

It’s been a long time since someone releases a track so poignant and mesmerizing yet complete in its natural, naked color. “Ten Years Time” tackles the melancholy aftermath of death that leaves a soft pink scar even after ten years. Elsdeer dedicated her first release to her father, who passed away ten years ago, but “Ten Years Time” isn’t a sad song. It has lyrics like “warm soft belly” and “big smile” mixed in its unshakable heaviness “rock on a cliff,” “black dress,” and “the last time.” In a way, Elsdeer’s “Ten Years Time” feels too simple, but it bears the perfect capacity to cover everything that left unsaid, which is the exact beauty about folk music.

There’s more then ten years of history and stories the song withhold, which doesn’t necessarily become words. They found their way home through the melodies and guitar strumming. For every single lines of melodies and lyrics, there were so much more underneath it. Like a tree, like roots, like the ocean. And Elsdeer’s voice is the wind that whispers those stories into your ears.

Simplicity and complexity is intertwined together in Elsdeer’s music. There’s no special effect or showing off in her music. Her voice is truthful and heartfelt, glowing in its beautiful, untamed natural color — and it’s a color that breaks the snow and ice, a warmth that nourishes your soul. Her songwriting tickles the artistic craves inside listeners. Her songs have that effects on people — Elsdeer doesn’t only make others want to listen but also inspire them to explore the creativity within. That’s a special talent that not a lot of artists have.

“Ten Years Time” is the kind of song that weights right between singer-songwriter and folk music. It has the intrigue of folk and the intimacy and freedom of singer-songwriter, but it also has Elsdeer’s own mark in them — something that can’t be defined by genres. It seems clear that the world needs more music from her.

Glass Lord “Say My Name”

Glass Lord’s and Ed.1t’s dance remix of Destiny Child’s “Say My Name” takes a bold move switching the defining, origin package of a hit song with their own House mix, and the result is quite surprising. Unlike Destiny Child’s “Say My Name” that forefronts Beyoncé’s sexy vocal above it all, Glass Lord and Ed.1t discovers the moody, atmospheric texture that could be explored more with the melodies and lyrics. Instead of producing a crystal-clear vocal line, they takes the opposite creative direction to make Glass Lord’s smooth and soulful vocal more obscure. With the sponge-like, deep sensuous soundscapes and heavy dance beat, their own sonic cocktail of “Say My Name” hits unlike any others.

The beauty of Ed.1t and Glass Lord’s version is that they don’t just stop at one sonic palette, they impress listeners with a range of sensations and moods that gradually collide with one another and birth new possibilities. It doesn’t take long for Ed.1t’s clever guitar line to surface. At that point, it seems that the artists have arrived at a place true to their heart. It’s a whole new color, vibrant and refreshing. It leans into the edginess and emotive side that electric guitar carries. At the same time, Glass Lord’s vocal is broken into layers. Like looking into a mirror, it’s dazzling and surreal. At that point, or any point, his vocal stops being the instrument that carries out the melody and lyrics, but it becomes a texture and an impression.

“Say My Name” is an intriguing introduction to Glass Lord’s and Ed.1t’s music universe. However, it’s missing one key element — Glass Lord’s intoxicating melody. The artist writes addictive melodies that feel literally like taking drugs from your ears. He has the special touch that seems to bring something so sensuous, tangible and emotional to the dance floor that instantly separates his music from others’. His two latest releases, “Moonlight” and “Santorini” have history and soul in his melodies, which his smooth and moody vocal bring out so effortless.

“Say My Name” poses a refreshing take on Destiny Child’s hit song. It’s also quite an interesting track in the collaboration between Ed.1t and Glass Lord. It certainly makes you crave more for their original music and at the same time, get to know a different side of the artists.

The Mars McClanes “The Worriers”

The Mars McClanes are certainly here to leave their marks. Punchy drum beats and fearless guitar have their own charms complementing each other in a rock-funk, sensational way that instantly explodes in your ears like fireworks. It poses a strong, characteristic presence that carries out into their music and interestingly, the spark and inspiration is unlimited.

The power track marks the first release for The Mars McClanes after nearly two decades. Coming back isn’t the same as never leaving, and by that, it translated into history and introspective, splashing energy into “The Worriers,” a cautionary tale for the cautious. It’s psychotic, bearing much mental power in its rhythm and pace, but the softly road-worn, calm vocal pulls it back before it burns out. It’s the perfect mix of energy and wisdom — which is the sound of The Mars McClanes in 2022.

The band goes way back to the early days, and their music always have some of those cross-century marks and twangs that worth exploring. “The Worriers” at times give you the impression that it travels into the current world from the 70s, stopping at a gas station in the early 00s, before it gets all pumps up in the present day. It’s fearless, loud, sparse, but not overwhelming. There’s passion and new energy that sparks of a rebirth. At the same time, it bears the long sigh when you gaze into the horizon.

“The Worriers” also features a poised guitar lick that seems to never leaving your head, as well as the strong impression it leaves. “Riddle,” the latest release from the band is an official release of the band’s signature tune, which only seems to be taking their characteristic creative sparks further. Additionally, the song is also the band’s signature tune from the glorious days.

Timothy and the Apocalypse “Ego”

Timothy and The Apocalypse’s music serves as a perfect symbol that compresses much deeper messages. Extending beyond the limitation of lyrics, “Ego” swings back and forth with several different ideas that seem very well preserved in the music form of Fragment, a journal of Timothy’s journey retreating to nature from the noisy dystopian world.

At first “Ego” gives out an intense vibe. The rhythm carries too much energy that it feels intense. As the song progresses, listeners would find that instead of anxiety (as expected in modern life), the intensity comes from the raw life force itself when you return to nature. There’s so much inspiration and energy that are interweaving, exchanging and flowing around the space. It’s spirited and it’s uplifting.

Then the peace and love sink in as the noises clear out the gloominess that has you cluttered. There’s refreshment and freedom in the sound that feels so limitless, like you can expand yourself, indefinitely. The therapeutic aspect also comes into play as the song dives deeper into its sonic universe. And then, there is joy. It’s singing and it’s raining from each and every sound.

One idea that’s intriguing to investigate is if the intensity that listeners perceive at first also represents the egoistic presence that we have. But regardless, the listening experience provided in “Ego” is undressing layers of noise, chaos and modernity and returning, rediscovering something worth our heart and soul.

The music video, like the cherry on top, captures the entertainment and fun that this song is all about.

Jordan Bakewell’s songwriting maintains the perfect balance of melodic repetition. “Freaky” opens with the chorus and it seems to be the reoccurring theme that takes you back to those groovy melodies several times during the song, but it’s not done in a manner that makes you feel like it’s redundant or too repetitive.

Bakewell keeps it fun and refreshing every time it marks its return. Towards the end, it builds up a desire, an addiction that makes you want to go back and hear it all over again. As an independent artist, Bakewell also showcases a level of professionalism and commercial quality that only exists among mainstream and signed acts.

Hailing from Leicestershire, UK, Jordan Bakewell is a songwriter, singer, and composer. His influences trace back to the early 2000s R&B, but his musical vocabulary is never limited or defined by the past. There’s plenty of originality in “Freaky” that is worth exploring.

Theredspirit “I Live In The Moment (feat. Isen)”

There are so many things to love in Theredspirit's latest release “I Live In The Moment,” featuring songstress Isen. In fact, there’s hardly anything to not like about it. Theredspirit and Isen’s vocal harmony is so wonderfully orchestrated and perfectly balanced. Instead of two different voices, they just produce a softly glistening tone that’s therapeutic and warm, like a cloud hug or the first kiss.

“I Live In The Moment” perfectly captures what the song is trying to express — living in the moment. The song has an uplifting, youthful energy that sparks inspiration and creativity. There’s maturity in the arrangement and the sound, which provided the nourishing ground for their message to grow and spread in the wind. “I Live In The Moment” is laid-back but it’s also spirited.

Theredspirit’s guitar solo is something you should pay attention to. The details showcase his solid guitar skill, while the melodies engage you emotionally at the same time providing another layer of textural support to the song. It occurs at a place that feels desired and leaves make you craving for more.

There isn’t anything too grand in “I Live In The Moment” Overall, the song feels very intimate, but that’s the beauty about it. It doesn’t need to be anything bigger than itself. The life and the moment itself hold all the beauty that’s enough to touch another soul.

Rob Johnson Music “you will wonder”

The wonder and the intensity are two forces that are intertwined in Rob Johnson’s “you will wonder.” Beautiful acoustic guitar work resolves in the imaginative samples and instrumentation that feel surreal and atmospheric. Like a journey that steps onto an island, floating on top of the cloud, the shades of the moon and the singing voice of water become the imageries that live in the encoded guitar notes.

As an instrumental track, “you will wonder” doesn’t lack intellectual and emotional communication. There’s a certain harshness and urgency in Rob Johnson’s playing. It sticks out from the textural wonders and connects you to the emotions and human experiences where it’s rooted, and it resonates more with your pain and worry. From there, it leads you to step outside of those experiences by surrounding them and transforming those experiences and feelings into something beautiful and magical.

“you will wonder” also compresses unlimited energy that radiates and splashes through each music note. It’s restless, it’s moving forward. It’s strong and fearless. Rob Johnson communicates this spirited state through his performance with no holding back.

The song is fresh from Salisbury-based artist’s upcoming album Hi, completing of an interlinked instrumental trilogy created in the aftermath of Johnson’s near-death experience in 2017. Since then, his music has been to many places, communicating different landscapes, visions, energy and colors, bringing listeners new and exciting listening experiences.

You'll See One Day “The Letter”

“The Letter” opens with an immediate emergence. The burning red and a darker, heavier tone intertwine with the emotive calling for attention. You’ll See One Day is returning with another killer single, addressing the lack of awareness in mental health issues and suicidal attempts for men.

The burial-style melodic opening instantly draws listeners to an immersive, hard-hitting yet vulnerable space. The lyrics address the desperate and helpless feeling trapped underneath the surface, fighting the demons alone, trying to call for help but no one seems to listen.

As the weak “I’m ok” fades into the background, the lyrics grab up the truth and push it to up front. You’ll See One Day did a really good job sonically capturing those vulnerable yet relatable moments and addressing it rationally and compassionally.

On the sonic level, “The Letter” is melodic, stadium-fillling, and hard-hitting. The message it carries has a strong emotional impact on its sounds and that’s what makes You’ll See One Day’s music so appealing. They’re not just doing music for the sound. They exceed the expectation of hard rock.

Nathan Peachy, the lead vocalist of the band shares the inspiration and meaning behind “The Letter”: “We have lost so many friends and family and had no idea what was going on beneath the surface. This song is for those who cried out in silence, who kept their darkness inside in fear of being called a ‘wuss’ or ‘sensitive.’ Speak up, reach out. Don’t hide in shame. It’s tough out there and we need each other to lean on.”

Ella England “With You”

Ella England writes for the lonely and struggling 20-something who are still finding their ways in the world. From her fingertips to the rest of the world, she sends those heartfelt letters that comfort and encourage the new and young adults who might be going through similar things.

“With You” feels close to home. It’s intimate and warm, soft but full of strength. The lyrics read like journals but they are so easy to relate to, as if they are speaking your mind after all. The melancholy feels fresh and light-colored. Even the insecurity and worries don’t feel heavy, and that’s the youthful energy of Ella England. They may not be the brightest, but they are always warm and full of energy.

England’s songwriting reminds you a lot about the early Avril Lavigne. Similar acoustic guitar, little edgy but powered chorus and impressive vocal style. “With You” doesn’t lack of rock aesthetic, though it’s subtle.

The chorus feels like a calling. The storytelling is intriguing, and the Scottish singer-songwriter is only at the beginning of her music journey. Inspired by Amy McDonald, Adele and Alanis Morissette, she is a combination of soulfulness, strength and emotive storytelling. There’s already so much good in her music and with time, there will only be more.

Joseh “High Wall”

Joseh’s music has a well blend of angst and momentum that escalates to a powerful listening experience. His music sets between rock, blues, gospel and indie pop, finishing off with a folkloric rhythm that feels deep-reaching. It would be inaccurate to describe “High Wall” as soulful because the song itself has a soul.

Earthy guitars opens the track with a landscape-like vision, Joseh’s voice is careless and free. Melodies that feel like they have been existing in the space and nature for long. Then the harp streams in, like ocean waves, gentle and cold. The electric guitar in the back, roars like thunder and lightning.

“High Wall” is a sonic space with all elements from nature. They coexist in harmony. Then the backing vocal group resonate the harmonies and melodies between one another, elevating the anthemic song with a beautiful collective energy.

Joseh’s “High Wall” is concentrated, moving, and calming. It possesses great power but in tune with itself. It’s not chaos that the song presents. It rides the feeling through echoing phrase that smoothly fade out: “ride now.”

Fritillaries “Unearthing”

Fritillaries Unearthing

“Hands searching in the dark and dirt, unearthing something I cannot see. I imagine reaching to grasp the left hand, of a king folded in the earth.” — Lyrics of Fritillaries “Unearthing”

As gentle as soothing, as beautiful as poignant, Fritillaries’ “Unearthing” takes your breath away, while your soul still longs for its silky warmth. The duo of Hannah Pawson and Gabriel Wynne is returning with another original composition, teasing fans for their upcoming debut album under Pear O' Legs Records.

There are so many intricate links in Fritillaries’ music that make it elegant and epic. The grace and mysticism of English folk tradition find a unique sonic palette with the thousand souls of Appalachian string bands and youthful Americana. The result is both profound and innocent. Pawson’s soulfully delivered prose worth a thousand words, while Wynne’s mandolin and guitar work weaves into the warm, humid soil that births a blossom.

Speaking about the story and inspiration behind “Unearthing,” Hannah Pawson shared, “Last winter, my mum sent over a poem she’d written. Unearthing was about digging through the dirt, sifting through the troubles of years, and planting flowers. We talk a lot about time, pace, and the seasonal nature of creativity; things need time to lie fallow, take love, time, and patience, and often grow when you’re not looking.”

The song resonates with the duo’s journey as well. Step by step, brewing the brilliant and delicate musical fruit with love and patience. Fritillaries is a band that never disappoints. If anything, they always, always exceed your expectation.

Drools “Fools In Hell”

Drools Fools In Hell

“Fools In Hell” undoubtedly makes a strong impression as the debut single from Swedish punk rock four-piece Drools. Fueled by their restless, eclectic energy and unapologetically straightforward attitude, Drools is the type of band you fall in love with at first sight.

“Fools In Hell” is a stadium filler. You can imagine the crowds going crazy, screaming “you, yeah you” with the band while pointing their rock n roll signs up in the air. The song is not complicated. It’s simply good music. Punchline guitar riffs and machine-gun drumbeats join the fire of group vocals while the guitar glitches and sparks electricity. What’s not to love? That would be a hard question.

The band reveals that they got the first lines from Turbonegro’s song “The Age of Pamparius.” They probably inhaled some magic dust from the song as well. “Fools In Hell” is just as lit as “The Age of Pamparius,” but on the side of rock n roll and punk, Drool’s single is clearly more fun. It’s rebellious and youthful rather than aggressive.

The more you listen to Drools, the more texture you’re able to catch within their music. For example, the first time, you notice the catchy melodies and loud soundscape, but the second time, you begin to see how the band is engaging with the audience.

By the third time, you’ll see that “Fools In Hell” is not just a simple punk song, Drools put in thoughts in their structures and thematic riffs. They are serious rockers and they clearly know how to seize the day.

Films, inspired by life, go beyond life, but the line between fiction and non-fiction isn’t so clear. Horrible things happen to children behind the doors. Some cases in reality are even worse than nightmares. Sinister influence and injustice often result in lifelong tragedy, while the voice of children is buried underneath their innocence.

Inspired by the fictional portrayal of certain characters, Cindy-Louise dedicated “Rescue Me” to addressing this pressing social issue and advocating for children. Gritty Trap and EDM paint a dark filmic sonic atmosphere with bouncy synth and hard-hitting beats. A reflection of our dark reality, but at the same time, challenging you to open your eyes and see the abuse, brokenness, negative, and injustice that we often choose to overlook.
