5 Q&A With My New Mixtape
What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Who's Your Daddy?"
It was a coping mechanism at first. An attempt to understand how half of our country elected a person to the office of president that I find so vile. I think it was part of the “stages of grief” process. Watching helplessly as the things you love are dismantled or destroyed and blaming the folks who voted for this.. It feels like we had a class assignment and half the class didn’t read the book… like a slow motion car crash.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for this song?
The recording process took about an hour. It’s pretty much recorded live.. I double-tracked the vocal to give it a slightly surreal lean (and because I hate my voice single-tracked). I wanted the song to be distraction free. No bells or whistles. Just the words and the chords.
Is there a particular message or theme you hope listeners take away from this single?
I’d love it if every Trump voter heard the song and was like “oh my god! you’re right… I’m a total idiot and I should’ve never voted for such a piece of shit for president”
..but I’d settle for a handful of folks finding a little solace in knowing they aren’t alone in feeling like this right now.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I’ve been obsessed with music since I was 13. Forever fascinated by sounds and rhythms. The fact that I get to do this for a living is still kinda unreal.
Can you walk us through your creative process when writing and composing music?
I think music is kinda like the McRib.. the less you know about how it’s made the better. :)
