5 Q&A With RAYmi by the Pool

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "RAYmiverse?"

The spark came from wanting to create not just songs, but a whole world around them — a universe where funk horns, big band energy, and electronic drops collide with playful cat-driven storytelling. RAYmiverse was born out of the idea that music can be immersive, theatrical, and funny while still being serious about groove. It’s about taking everyday cat quirks and turning them into larger-than-life anthems that feel both epic and tongue-in-cheek.

Can you share any interesting or unique musical elements or production techniques used in "RAYmiverse?"

We love to blend unexpected genres. For example, cello riffs usually reserved for classical or royal themes become main motifs inside alt-funk and EDM drops. Brass sections hit with the same force as synth leads, and scratchy guitar funk licks get layered with glitch sparkles. We often leave deliberate space in the lyrics for instrumental motifs — almost like characters that return each time. It creates an unpredictable flow where the production itself feels alive and playful.

What impact do you hope "RAYmiverse" will have on your audience or the music industry?

We want listeners to feel like they’ve stepped into a carnival of sound — where the groove makes you move, but the humor and imagination make you stay. For the industry, the hope is to push boundaries: to show that genre-bending can be both accessible and truly unique. If we can inspire other artists to lean into their quirks and inventiveness instead of chasing formulas, then RAYmiverse has done its job.

Can you tell us more about you as an artist?

RAYmi is a shapeshifter. Sometimes an alt-funk showman, sometimes an EDM trickster, sometimes a big band conductor with brass and drums firing at full tilt. At the heart of it, RAYmi is a playful cat persona who thrives on turning everyday things — cardboard boxes, chasing lasers, flexing in absurd ways — into royal anthems. The mission is to stay unpredictable, keep things theatrical, and always leave room for humor and goosebumps.

How do you perceive the current state of the music industry, and what trends do you find most prominent?

The industry is in a moment where attention spans are short but possibilities are wide. TikTok and short-form platforms reward bold, quick ideas — which actually works in our favor. RAYmi already has a 60k+ following on TikTok, where engaging videos to our own songs bring the RAYmiverse to life.

At the same time, genre lines are dissolving: pop leans into EDM, hip hop borrows from rock, and everything is up for grabs. One of the most exciting trends is how AI is becoming part of the creative process. RAYmi’s music is created with AI, but what makes it art is the unique way it’s combined with a cat persona, theatrical storytelling, and absurd-yet-royal performance energy. It’s a playful but serious statement that shows how technology can empower new kinds of creativity — not replace it.
