Anna Porto On the Making Of “Hopeless Love Affair”

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "Hopeless Love Affair" and the story it tells?

“Hopeless Love Affair” tells the story of being trapped in a loveless relationship — holding onto the hope that one day it could become something more, yet feeling unable, or too afraid, to walk away. With raw honesty and emotional depth, “Hopeless Love Affair” captures the tension between love and the fear of leaving.

Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for this song?

The most memorable part of this song was bringing my sister into it. Having her at the piano with me while we wrote, and then watching her record her vocals in the studio, was incredibly meaningful. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

What impact do you hope this track will have on your audience?

I hope this song connects with people who struggle in relationships but keep it hidden behind closed doors. So many are afraid to leave—whether because of hurt, or simply being stuck in love and blind to what they know deep down. For anyone experiencing that fear of leaving, this song is for you—that was always the goal.

Can you share a bit about your musical background and the journey that led you to where you are today?

I’ve been singing for 10 years, always involved in school bands and performances because I’ve always loved music. I taught myself piano and guitar, and my passion for songwriting really began when I started music classes at school. Over the years, I focused on it and kept growing my knowledge and inspiration. In 2020, I wrote a song I really loved, and in 2024 I finally found the courage to record it as my first single, Every Little Possible Lie. Now I’m writing new songs and have so much more coming.

Have you collaborated with other songwriters or musicians? How does the collaborative process enhance your creativity?

So far, I haven’t had the chance to collaborate with other musicians besides my sister. I’d love to one day work with local artists around Melbourne and see what kind of potential and creativity we could bring out together.
