Artist Spotlight: Meet Astral Rocks

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind “Why War” and the story it tells?

“Why War” was born out of deep frustration with the injustice and unnecessary loss we still see in today’s world. Every day on television, we know that it’s not getting better, it’s getting worse, and it feels like war is everywhere now. I pictured a mother who should be playing in the park with her children, not trying to save and hide them in a war zone. For me, it’s not just a song, it’s a plea for compassion and a reminder that behind every statistic there are real human lives.

Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for this song?

Yes, absolutely. I remember the moment when the backing vocals first entered. The harmonies added such depth, and suddenly the whole track felt like a collective cry rather than a solo voice. It gave me goosebumps. That was when I realised the song had the emotional weight I had hoped for.

How does “Why War” fit into your overall artistic vision, and what can listeners expect from you in the future?

Astral Rocks is about strength, transformation, and a sense of belonging. “Why War” fits into this vision as a protest against cruelty but also as a call to unite. Every song I write reflects my life in some way, fragments of my story turned into music. My next release is a Christmas song called Bring Back Hope, which merges two worlds: one side wishing “Merry Christmas” with joy, and the other side praying for peace amid conflict. It’s about remembering that we share one world, and hope is what connects us.

What inspired you to pursue a music career?

Music flows through my veins. My family has been performing in a brass band in Austria for over 175 years, so I was raised amid music. For many years, I worked in London as a credit controller, but I always knew my real calling was to create. Eventually, I decided to pursue that path wholeheartedly, turning my heritage and stories into songs.

Your lyrics often tell stories. Can you talk about your approach to storytelling through music?

For me, songs are like short novels. I always start with an image, such as a mountain, a broken home, or a mother crying, and then I let the emotion develop into melody and words. Storytelling remains central to Astral Rocks, whether through my songs or my books, and how I found the strength to turn that past into creativity. Both my music and my writing come from the same source, a need to shape life into something that can genuinely speak to others and maybe offer them a little hope.

This book traces my journey through a violent and unstable childhood, through trauma, escape, and the long path to reclaim my voice.
