Artist Spotlight; Meet Shelita
What is the inspiration behind it?
“Fade” is deeply personal. It’s dedicated to my father, who passed away. Writing it was my way of processing the reality that time is never promised, and that the people we love can be gone in an instant. It became a song about holding on, even as life pulls us apart.
Could you discuss the lyrical themes or messages conveyed in "Fade?”
The song lives in that space between being present and loss. Lines like “This could be the last time we see each other. We fade out, we fade in, but come on in” are about the push and pull of connection, how we drift away and return, and the urgency of embracing someone while you can.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "Fade?”
One moment that stands out was recording the main vocal take at night in Los Angeles. The studio was dim, and I was thinking of my father the whole time. It felt less like singing and more he was having one last conversation with me.
What role do you feel emotions play in your music, and how do you channel them into your performances?
Emotions are the lifeline of my music. If I’m not feeling it, the listener won’t either. I try to step fully into the moment, whether it’s joy, longing, or grief, so that every note carries the weight of what I’m expressing.
Are there any upcoming projects or releases that you're particularly excited about?
Yes, my album Into the Depths comes out on August 29. “Fade” is just one part of a larger journey through healing, love, and transformation. I’m excited to share the rest of the record because each track is a different facet of what I’ve been through.
