Feature: Jakub Chmelar Decodes “Speechless”
What was the creative process like for this particular song?
The process behind “Speechless” was deeply emotional and personal. It began with a feeling that had been growing inside me for a long time. I needed to say goodbye to the version of myself that had been shaped by silence and pressure. I wrote the lyrics from that place of truth and vulnerability. The music was composed by a close friend who understands my vocal range and knew exactly how to support the story musically. Every part of the process was intentional and came from the heart.
How do you feel “Speechless” represents your artistic identity?
“Speechless” is the most honest reflection of who I am as an artist. I come from a musical theater background so storytelling is in everything I do. This song allowed me to combine emotional expression with a sense of theatricality that feels true to my voice. It represents my belief that art should be both personal and universal. I want people to feel something real when they hear my music.
What did you enjoy most about making the music video?
What I loved most was the people behind it. The entire team was made up of friends who believed in me and in the message. Jay, the director, is someone who truly understood the importance of this project. We created it with trust, love, and intention. It did not feel like just a video shoot. It felt like a shared moment of truth and freedom. That kind of connection is rare and I will never forget it.
How have your life experiences shaped your musical voice, and what are the most significant influences?
Growing up in the Czech Republic and living in the Middle East taught me how to stay quiet to survive. That silence eventually started to shape who I was. Over time I realized that I was not living as the version of myself I was meant to be. That realization gave me the courage to write and sing from a place of honesty. Artists like Cynthia Erivo, Adele, Lady Gaga, Jessie J, and Billy Porter inspire me with their power, emotion, and authenticity. They have shown me that your voice matters most when it comes from who you really are.
Are there any specific artists or musicians you dream of collaborating with?
Yes. I would love to work with Cynthia Erivo because of how she combines vulnerability with strength. Adele and Jessie J are incredible vocalists who pour emotion into every word. Lady Gaga and Billy Porter inspire me with their fearless artistry and commitment to truth. Collaborating with any of them would be a dream because they all create with heart, intention, and a deep sense of purpose.
