Kave Releases "Through Waves "

Kavé is a world-led music project blending guitar-driven cinematic soundscapes, spoken word and visual storytelling, exploring memory, distance and longing through music set in an imagined future.

The project takes place in 2325. Kavé is marooned on Perpetua, a failed human colony far from Earth. From there, they transmit mixtapes back home via radio signal fragments of music, memory and imagined places sent in the hope of reaching those still there, and inviting them to imagine another way of living beyond a technology-saturated, spiritually bereft world.

Through Waves is the second transmission from Perpetua.

Written more like a film than a conventional song, Through Waves unfolds across three distinct scenes. In the first, Kavé travels alone along an alien coastline. In the second, they encounter a woman standing at the edge of the ocean, where a spoken-word passage performed by professional voice actor Abigail Turner enters the composition. In the final scene, Kavé gradually disappears from the narrative and the woman becomes the protagonist herself, her voice emerging through vocals performed by Bronwyn Rose.

The music develops alongside this narrative. Layered guitars, synthesisers and drifting instrumental passages carry the track between scenes, moving from the solitude and restraint of the opening journey towards a powerful dream-pop finale. As the woman takes over the song, the music becomes increasingly psychedelic and dreamlike, dissolving the boundaries between memory, landscape and character.

At the heart of Kavé is an exploration of the space between records and films, asking what a song can become when cinematic storytelling is embedded into its composition from the beginning. Rather than creating music videos for finished songs, scenes, characters and dialogue are written directly into the music, with voice actors inhabiting compositions alongside guitars, synthesisers and other musical elements. Visual artists then interpret and extend these scenes into moving image, creating works in which neither the film nor the music is simply an accompaniment to the other.

Through Waves is accompanied by an original film that brings this journey through Perpetua to life, moving from desolate coastal landscapes into increasingly surreal images of ocean, figures and impossible celestial bodies. The film uses AI-assisted imagery as one means of bringing the world of Perpetua to life at this early stage of the project. As Kavé develops, the ambition is to expand these worlds through collaborations with illustrators, animators and filmmakers, with the next film already in production with an independent animator. Future funding will allow these collaborations to grow in scale and ambition, bringing more visual artists into the evolving Kavé universe.

Drawing from dream-pop, progressive and psychedelic rock, electronic music and film scores, Kavé treats each release as a fragment of a larger imagined universe. Songs, dialogue and moving image gradually reveal the mythology of Perpetua, with each body of work representing a different chapter in Kavé's life on the planet.

For listeners drawn to immersive storytelling, cinematic music and imagined worlds, Through Waves offers a deeper passage into the Kavé universe.

Kavé is the solo audiovisual project of London-based musician, producer and visual storyteller Alex Kos.
