Super Creeps On the Making Of ‘House of Pain’

How did you come up with the theme?
We were just writing stuff that didn’t fit anywhere else, and just played what we felt like playing. Accidental pain. Emotional clutter. Those kind of things. Things that stick to you.
How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for ‘House of Pain’ to life?
We tracked at The Tea House in Oakland with our good friend, Reto Peter. Been working with him for years. We'd text or make calls back and forth to dial in what we heard in our heads. He's a wizard at what he does and his accolades speak for themselves.
Which song(s) from ‘House of Pain’ do you think best represents your artistic vision?
All of them!
Can you tell us more about you as a duo?
We're brothers from Alameda, California and we've been playing since junior high. Coming from our massive cultural background, we have eclectic musical tastes. It's kind of everywhere. And it's apparent in our songs.
How do you engage with your audience during your live performances to create a memorable experience for them?
I think the experience is us barely holding it together onstage. That’s the show. Sometimes with banter. Sometimes without. Half the time something breaks, or Ash (guitarist) forgets lyrics, or we take liberties with instrumental sections — it's never the same show. People seem to like that more. The authenticity.
