Watch: Olivia Rodrigo’s “the cure” Music Video
Sometimes, we get into relationships, hoping it’d be the cure, but maturing is realizing “it’d never be the cure,” as Oliver Rodrigo sings in her new song, “the cure.”
The track marks the second release from the singer's upcoming album, Your Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, set to arrive on June 12.
What makes “the cure” special is the way it talks about the complication of love with honesty. “All of my favorite love songs have an element of sadness,” Rodrigo said in an interview with Cosmopolitan. “And that’s what makes them so beautiful.”
She described a great love song as something that has “so much emotion behind it” that you’d feel the happiness and at the same time, be something “you can cry to.”
“The cure” is a song like this. It holds the complexity of love without compromising on the good and the bad.
In an Instagram post, Rodrigo shared that “the cure” is her “favorite song” on Your Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, and it’s one of her favorite songs she’s “ever made.”
She also positioned the track as “the climax of the record.” “When you’re younger, you think falling in love with someone will fix all of your problems,” she told iHeartRadio. “And then I think when you face love in reality, you realize that that’s not the truth.”
