XRick SaenzX On the Making Of “Kickback”

What was the creative process like for this particular song?

The creative process was not too complex. Actually the process was very smooth because I was writing almost everyday already. I like to be by myself where I feel like I can get into a zone in my head while using the beat. It took about 2 hours to write my verse and hook. This was my first collaboration too, so we bounced ideas about how we recorded too. Me and OTW(Out the Way) fed off each other’s energy. Sickoebeatzz (my engineer/producer) gave great leadership too. Telling us when to give more energy or when we are out of pocket.

Could you discuss the lyrical themes or messages conveyed in "Kickback?"

The message I was trying to convey was there is a time for seriousness and heavy lyrics and there's a time for fun lyrics. This was a time for fun lyrics and slight aggression and I think I achieved that mark.

What did you enjoy most about making "Kickback?"

I enjoyed collaborating with OTW. He's dope as hell and a very creative dude. For the first time collaborating, it was a great experience and.

Can you tell us more about you as an artist?

My name is XRick SaenzX aka Num Grizly and I grew up in Los Angeles, California. I've had a love for hip-hop since I was young. Deep down as a kid I always wanted to become a rapper so I started off with poetry and worked my way to writing poetry to beats and now here I am writing songs. Music is what I love to do and I don't even consider this work because creating is fun as hell. The business aspect of being an artist is even fun. I didn't know all the things I had to look out for until now. It's fun as hell to learn for me.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

I find inspiration from my own experiences growing up in LA. As for My lyricism well I love bars. Whether they are complex, double entendres or whatever. As long as they make sense, I'm going to say it.
