23 Fields’ “I’ll See You Soon” Is a Wake-Up Call to Reconnect
Punk Head: ”I’ll See You Soon" is a phrase most people say without thinking twice. At what point did those words start carrying a different weight for you?
23 Fields: Seeing my parents get older and their health decline, my dad not driving long distances etc, realised they won’t be around forever and I need to make more effort
Punk Head: The track feels deeply personal, but it also speaks to a universal experience. When you were writing it, were you thinking about your own story or about listeners who might see themselves in it?
23 Fields: It is personal but as with all tracks, I have the listeners in mind, after all I’m not the one who’s listening! Although it ‘s personal, everyone can relate to this, go and see your folks if you’re lucky enough to still have them around!
Punk Head: What's the hardest lyric in the song for you to sing now that it's out in the world?
23 Fields: It’s got to be the quite bridge – ‘one day there won’t be a time to find a weekend that aligns’
Punk Head: Many listeners will hear this and immediately think about their own families. What conversations do you hope the song encourages beyond simply listening to it?
23 Fields: Just get in touch, go and see them, they brought you up and wiped your butt, least you could do is go and spend some time with them!
Punk Head: In a culture that constantly pushes people toward the next task, achievement, or destination, what do you think we lose when relationships become something we plan to prioritize later?
23 Fields: We lose the importance of human connection, we become self obsessed and aggressive towards others, in the words of a track off of our first album – ‘don’t be a dick!’
