5 Q&A With Neil Potter

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Música El Idioma Del Amor (My Sweet Señorita)?”

I have a lot of depressing songs, so thought I should write some nicer ones for the album that I was intent on making. So I wrote two for the most loved things in my life, my son, and my partner. This song is about her, with her Spanish background and her love of reggaeton music.

How does this single fit into your overall artistic vision and what can listeners expect from you in the future?

It’s mad, just like me haha! No, but it’s definitely a fusion of many styles with a purpose on trying to be different. A songwriter who thinks about every single detail to serve whatever the story is about/needs. I appreciate all music and all artistry, but I don’t just want to be known as good at only one thing, a good lyricist say. I also don’t claim to be great on anything, but knowing I’ve least tried my very hardest on every aspect for it to be decent.

What was your favourite moment in making the music video?

Watching the talented dancer bring it all to life, it was crazy actually. Because it what exactly what I envisioned in my head.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?

I was bad at everything else I tried haha. I was also made to feel stupid in the likes of school. Not knowing that at the time that I was just a pure creative. Someone I also stress to my music students, you’re not stupid you just think differently! And music makes you smarter, it’s a scientific fact!

What role do you feel emotions play in your music, and how do you channel them into your performances?

I mostly write from a personal perspective. So with that, all the human emotions are at play. And again, as a teacher, I tell my students the best thing to have as a singer say, is the emotional aspect, if you connect you’re onto a winner. Technique comes second to the fact. Every time I sing a song of mine I’m nearly always taken back to the raw reason why I wrote it, and for some reason more so live. So I can channel this and make the listener, laugh, cry, go… “what’s wrong with this feller” haha!
