5 Q&A With The Amanda Emblem Experiment
Can you talk about any specific themes or motifs that run throughout 'The Wood?'
Most of the songs were written at a beachside house, where we like nothing better than to escape for a sea change. New music is easily created there. The atmosphere is often electric. Good times, friends and music! Songs flow like the weather changes. As such. There is a nautical theme reoccurring throughout the album but there are also some songs that stand alone that were created in that space, either musically, lyrically or both.
Was there any challenge that you encountered while making 'The Wood?'
I have had to learn a lot of patience with this album. As I write this I'm still waiting for the release date. It's been a tediously long process this time around. Some of the songs went straight to the studio and then languished awaiting parts from my band members. When the songs were completed I then suffered from release paralysis. Which song first? What to call the album? The song order? Back and forth it went.
In my indecision, I took the songs to my peers, but everyone had a different opinion. In the end I had to make the decision. Now here I am.
Which song(s) from the album do you think best represents your artistic vision?
That is an easy question, it is "The Wood." Which I why I named the album the same. The song hasn't changed since the night it was written/conceived at the beach house, instead it has evolved. It's audible ecstasy to my ears. There's a confidence in the space and an energy, like a captured memory. I'm calm, proud and inspired listening back. Amazed by the ease of its process. Thing is, it's not a single. It's slow, it's five minutes long. It doesn't follow a formula, it's unlike anything I've written before.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I've been writing and performing for some time now and I started as a child. At first I believed I could change the world through music, but years later, I now know that music has saved me from the world. It's my superpower and my protector, it's always with me and there for me. When I share music I bring something valid and valuable to the table.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting their musical journey?
Nothing impresses people more than actual talent, yet that alone won't bring you success if you're expecting it.
If you are driven to succeed as a musician take the lead! Don't let others slow your progress or make you compromise. Own it. When opportunity comes take it. Be ready and be well-rehearsed.
