Jack Agdur On the Making Of “Temporal singularity”
What inspired you to write the lyrics/music for "Temporal singularity?"
I was inspired by processes in nature and how I once didn’t have the words to express what I felt and saw. I wrote a master’s thesis in musical analysis and found a phenomenon I couldn’t describe so that it satisfied me enough. Later I was intrigued by the fact that I could see the same phenomenon and finally describe it in a way that made me more self-confident.
Can you describe the emotions or feelings you hope "Temporal singularity" evokes in listeners?
Generally, a feeling of loss and then the feeling of that it’s never too late. I mean, if you’ve made a discovery, it’s important sometimes just to let it sink in and wait and then when the time is ready just to explore what you once did. I see myself as a bit of an adventurer.
What do you like the best about this track?
I like the melodic line and the harmonic progressions. I felt that my track was very sweet but also that it had a sort of balanced grief.
Can you tell us more about you as an artist?
I am a composer and music educator. In my music, I have an idea of evoking a sense of musical vertigo where you could feel almost like you were floating. I have a ”circling” method that I believe sometimes may give the listener a mesmerizing experience. I collaborate with a performance duo called PRZ from time to time their work fits well in with the almost absurd aim of making someone float through music.
Can you share a special moment when you felt a deep connection with the audience?
I once collaborated with the British dance company Meta4 dance. I remember how well the dance fitted with my music. They were performing a natural theatre and the dance performance had a gorgeous setting at the heats of Northumberland. I was very happy to contribute to this and I was left with a feeling that my music had really been helpful in the staging of the performance.
