Anton Anrén On the Making Of “PS”

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "PS?"

Me and my co-producer Alex were just vibing in the studio, and got the idea to make something a little more upbeat. So we played around with a couple ideas, and ended up with making a song about living your best life, and saying what's on your mind without having unsaid truths.

Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for "PS?"

There were a couple haha, but it went pretty smoothly I would say. The recording was pretty painful though, the song is not superfast, but i’m not used to rapping fast. I’m coming from the old school era when the bpm range was between 88 and 97, but we got there in the end.

What was your favorite moment in making the music video?

It was painful I would say haha, me and my co-producer Alex also edited the whole thing. And that was the best part for me. I’m not that keen on being in front of the camera.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?

My name is Anton from Stockholm, Sweden, I'm 28 years old, and have been making music for about 9 years now. As a kid, I was a huge music consumer, listening to Greenday, Gorillaz, Biggie, Deadmau5 and everything in between. I remember I was blasting our home speakers with open windows so the entire neighbourhood could hear what I was listening to cause I wanted them to feel like I felt. When I was around 14, one of my then friends showed me FL Studio, he showed me some of his Hardstyle projects. It was a whole new world for me, so it didn’t resonate with me as much as it did later on. Then, when I was 19-ish, I wrote a whole bunch of songs while listening to beats. And found a friend group that did the same, so I started making beats for them, then I found international collaborations so I made beats for them. And then came the decision that this is what I want to do, I'm going all in. I went to Ingesunds musikhögskola to study music production, took my degree, and now we are here!

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced as a musician, and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge is to find your genre, your style, your voice and your artistry. I cannot say that I'm fully there yet, but I'm fighting towards it every single day. By writing, training and practicing you will get closer, and that is the only thing that matters.

Then, to state the obvious, to get heard. But express yourself the way you are, and people will resonate with the emotion you are trying to express.
