Artist Spotlight: Meet Exzenya
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "Drunk Texting" and the story it tells?
“Drunk Texting” was inspired by a hilarious and very human moment on a family trip to Florida. My husband and I had traveled with our two youngest sons before heading out on a reggae cruise. I was stuck in bed with a severe migraine while they went out for the night and stumbled into an extravagant party hosted by a well-known NFL player, complete with free drinks, celebrity guests, and a wild, electric energy.
Later that night, my son Tristan came crashing back into the hotel suite — literally falling through the doorway when I opened it, with his credit cards and wallet contents scattered across the hallway. He was drunk, ecstatic, and unstoppable.
He began texting a girl he liked back home while the rest of us — my husband and other son — were shouting “No, don’t do it!” and chasing him around the suite trying to grab his phone. He was running away from us, refusing, yelling, “I can do what I want! I’m a grown man!”
The next morning, he sat up in bed, looked at his phone, and said, “Oh, what the hell?” — a line that’s actually in the song. Then he texted the girl again and said: “My phone was drunk and it drunk texted you last night! I’m not to blame — it was all my phone’s fault.”
That moment was so perfectly honest, funny, and relatable that I knew it had to become a song. It captures that universal experience of late-night regret and awkward confessions, but with a playful twist. “Drunk Texting” is a tongue-in-cheek look at how technology and alcohol combine to make us all a little braver, a little messier, and sometimes a little more honest than we’d like to be.
How did you approach the arrangement and composition of the music for "Drunk Texting?"
My vision was to create a playful, modern pop track with a strong storytelling feel that could live comfortably on a party playlist or in dance clubs. The arrangement is bright, upbeat, and intentionally satirical, with catchy melodic hooks that bring a tongue-in-cheek energy to the subject. I wanted it to feel fun, relatable, and memorable right from the first beat, so I kept the structure clean and rhythmic.
Because “Drunk Texting” is based on a real and slightly chaotic family story, I made sure the instrumentation supported that narrative. The playful, confessional lyrics sit on top of a danceable groove that mirrors the impulsive, carefree vibe of a night out. I incorporated elements of electro-pop, urban pop, and a hint of spoken-word satire to match the comedic edge of the storyline.
I also drew on my experience as a global traveler and cultural explorer to inject subtle rhythmic influences that feel international — a nod to how universal the experience of “drunk texting” really is, no matter where you live. Overall, the track is designed to invite the listener in, make them smile, and maybe even relive one of their own late-night, “oh no” moments, while still sounding polished enough to blend seamlessly into commercial pop and R&B playlists.
How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for this song to life?
“Drunk Texting” was about 80–90% complete before I ever sent it to the producer. I produced nearly the entire song myself in GarageBand, creating all the instrumentals, the hooks, and the energy to match the playful, satirical lyrics. The vocal style was also something I designed very intentionally: I created a character voice that was a blend of a playful Britney Spears-like baby voice and a soft, sultry tone inspired by Sabrina Carpenter. The character is meant to sound like a ditzy, carefree, privileged “daddy’s money” type who has zero responsibilities — a fun, over-the-top persona that absolutely does not match my son’s personality, but perfectly fit the humor of the storyline.
When I handed the project to the producer for finishing touches, he worked on mixing and mastering to polish it professionally. He helped make the vocals bright, clear, and balanced, which was important since this was my very first song release. I had only been taking vocal lessons for about a year, so this was a brand-new adventure for me.
At first, hearing the final version was a shock — it was so different from my original home demo that I held onto it for two and a half months before deciding to release it. It took me a while to appreciate how the final professional treatment elevated my ideas while keeping their playful, mischievous vibe intact. It’s funny looking back, but I’m grateful I trusted the process. One day, I’d still love to hear a fully produced version of my raw, original demo, just to compare.
Ultimately, this song was a true collaboration in the sense that I carried the creative vision, story, and arrangement nearly to the finish line, and the producer made sure it sounded polished, radio-ready, and built for the dance floor. It was a bold first experience stepping into music production, and I’m proud of how it came to life.
Can you tell us more about you as an artist?
At my core, I’m a global storyteller. I’m not just an artist — I’m a CEO, an entrepreneur, an investor, and a mentor. My work spans countries, cultures, and industries, weaving together everything I’ve learned as a leader and world traveler into the music I create. I have built and managed international businesses, invested in real estate and precious metals, and guided others toward greater sovereignty and financial independence. That same vision shows up in my artistry.
Music is another channel for me to tell stories that connect across borders and backgrounds. I’m inspired by the psychological, emotional, and cultural threads that unite us as humans, no matter where we live. Whether it’s heartbreak, resilience, humor, or identity, I write from the collective — not just my own experience. I want my songs to feel like a safe space for everyone, where gender, age, or status don’t matter, and where truth is valued over perfection.
My sound is genre-fluid, influenced by everything from Pop and R&B to Soul, Jazz, Spanish styles, EDM, and even a bit of Punk. I believe in freedom of movement, not only physically but creatively — refusing to be boxed in or labeled, just like I refuse to be constrained in my businesses or in life.
Ultimately, I see myself as a voice for reinvention — proof that you can build a powerful, purpose-led brand and still stay true to your values, your family, and your global spirit. I’m a grandmother, a mother, a friend, and an unstoppable artist who sees no borders, no limitations, and no reason to settle for small dreams. That’s the energy I bring to every track: bold, fearless, and deeply human.

Do you aim to convey any specific themes or messages through your music?
Absolutely. My music is driven by a deep desire to explore authentic human experiences — whether they’re joyful, complicated, or somewhere in between. I believe in honoring every part of what makes us human, including our mistakes, our regrets, and our breakthroughs. Owning our flaws, laughing at ourselves, and finding meaning in our stories are themes I’m passionate about weaving into my songs.
A huge influence comes from my professional background working with people with disabilities and challenging behaviors, and my education in psychology, applied behavior analysis, communications, and conflict resolution. These fields taught me how to understand people from the inside out — how we love, how we fight, how we heal, and how we hope. All of that insight flows straight into my songwriting, giving it a layered, honest, and relatable quality.
I also believe in showing that we can reinvent ourselves at any age, on our own terms, and live boldly, without permission. My music reflects my values of sovereignty, global citizenship, and freedom of movement, both literally and creatively. I want my songs to be emotionally engaging, clever, and globally resonant — a place where people see their stories reflected, without boundaries around gender, culture, or identity.
At the end of the day, my music is a safe space to feel. It’s a way to say, “I see you, I get you, and you’re not alone.” That’s the message I want every listener to take away.
