Artist Spotlight: Meet The Party After
How does 'Dopamine Machine' reflect your musical journey and growth as a band?
'Dopamine Machine' is a record dedicated to breaking illusions and seeing the rock and roll lifestyle for what it really is. We sing of the chasing of fame, the assimilating into a rhythm that isn't necessarily ours, and breaking those chains to put forth an album that truly reflects our experiences and how we feel about a life of rock n' roll and the world surrounding it. From the grit to the glamour, one has to truly be in love with it all to have a fighting chance at making a living in such a washed-out world.
Can you talk about any specific themes or motifs that run throughout 'Dopamine Machine?'
There are several themes that we play with through the record, but talk a lot of the dark side of partying and living a hard and fast life. We broach upon several very human subjects as well such as self-worth, discipline, and loving each other.
Can you talk about any standout tracks on the album and what makes them special to you?
As a band, there are several that we truly enjoy more than others for a myriad of reasons, and one track that sticks out to us is "Celebrating Nothing". It's something that we have been toying with for a decade, and it became such an adventure to play live that we look forward to that one constantly. Also, the end of "Symmetrism" is another one that just seems to give us goosebumps when we perform it.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Through several stages of our lives, togetherly and separately, music has always been there for us, as it is for everyone who wishes to access it. To be able to put our experiences into a neat little package and then share with the world is all we've ever wanted. There are always moments of wanting a taste of the decadence that is the rock n' roll life, but for us three, it truly comes from a place of connection to the world and everyone in it that we can possibly reach.
Is there a specific show that holds a special place in your band's history?
Just last night we did our CD release party for the album, and it was an incredible time! As for something in our history that sticks out, we've had a bunch of fantastic shows in some really cool places, so it's hard to choose just one. Opening for household acts is always great, but there's something so satisfying about headlining a hometown show and having success in that kind of night.
