Feature: Lücid Lovers Decodes “Obsession”
How did you come up with the idea for Lücid Lovers?
High Priestess: This wasn’t just an idea - it was a cosmic download delivered straight to the High Priestess herself (aka me). It came through like lightning: I literally ran home one day and yelled, "Baby, we have to cover this! Trust me!" The Hierophant took one listen and dove in with full aligned trust. Thus, after years of ideating music collaboration, Lücid Lovers was born. Lücid Lovers is what happens when you realize your voice is a weapon, your love is a portal, and your purpose isn’t to fit into the system - it’s to burn it down with grace. We’ve always been meant to create together. We were just waiting for divine timing to blast the veil open. And it did.
The Hierophant: As long as we’ve known each other, I’ve always felt the spark of musicianship in the High Priestess, and knew we needed to collaborate. At some point along the way, friendship led to more. As we grew closer, we found a way to express ourselves together with music - to the point we even performed at our wedding. We’ve continued to collaborate and experiment over the years, but now, we’re finally bringing our vision to life. Our first EP will explore many of the musical concepts we’ve played with over the past 5 years to finally give them a voice. All this time we’ve been building it; we’ve been building it, for you.
Can you share any interesting or unique musical elements or production techniques used in “Obsession?”
The Hierophant: Once the High Priestess brought the song to my attention, I had all kinds of ideas to honor the original composition while developing and honing our sound as an artist. Our Synth Lab is full of endless options to craft the electronic undertones and drum sounds that drive the track. We took full advantage of modern MIDI sequencing to conduct an orchestra of hardware synthesizers to develop the basic drum and bass tones. Add in elements of live guitar, bass, drums, and keys, and you have a sound we are proud to call Lücid Lovers!
High Priestess: Oh, absolutely. First off - yes, that’s a keytar you're hearing. Every layer of Obsession was performed, engineered, and produced by the duo, and recorded, mixed, and mastered by the Hierophant himself in our own Audio Alchemy Studio. He’s been behind the console for 20+ years, and this track was us throwing out all the tired rules. We made this track for the ones trying to wake up from the numbness. To feel something again. To cut through the noise and say: you’re not crazy for feeling out of place in this system. You’re just not meant for the cog - and you're much better off for it.
Is there a particular message or theme you hope listeners take away from “Obsession?”
High Priestess: Hell yes! This track is a full-on energetic transmission. We gender-swapped the vocals to channel the divine feminine, reclaiming a narrative that’s often distorted through the male gaze. Obsession isn’t just a feeling - it’s a frequency. And this track? It’s coded to recalibrate the nervous system. And when we do that, we heal and empower ourselves with purpose.
The Hierophant: With a cover song, you have the unique opportunity to see how the original songwriters’ composition is interpreted through the lens of another. That can often lead to a reframing of what the original may have meant to you, if you’re familiar. Conversely, some may not be familiar with the original at all. Perhaps that clean slate gives others a chance to resonate with our frequency and the energy we put out into the world. In the case of this track in particular, it shows how pure, unbridled passion for your partner can really set off a spark unlike any other experience you’ve ever known.
Can you tell us more about you as a duo?
High Priestess: We’re not just a duo - we’re a divine riot in harmony. Husband and wife. Audio alchemist and firestarter. The Hierophant has been engineering, mixing, and mastering music for 20+ years, and I’ve been walking the line between a lightworker and public health rebel my whole life. Together? We’re building our own wave - one that doesn’t ask for permission to exist. We composed the jingle for Gene Simmons’ Moneybag Sodas, and even performed our own wedding songs instead of dancing to them. We’ve been writing together for years, but we waited until the timing felt real. Until the veil dropped. Until the world was cracked open enough to receive what we’ve known all along: sound is medicine. Music is spellwork. And we came here to break systems wide open.
The Hierophant: Working with a romantic partner as a musical partner can come with a level of creative tension many may not be used to in a traditional music group, or jamming with others in your community. We speak in different languages that can bring us to exciting and sometimes unconventional outcomes; yet the synergies and sparks can take those creative energies and propel us far beyond the limits of what we ever thought possible. We make each other better musical artists, as well as people, by not only performing together, but making sure we take time to listen and learn from each other's exploration. We have learned to transcribe the rhythm and melodies of the astral plane and bring it back to this realm where we can give it a voice in this world.
Are there any upcoming projects or releases you’re particularly excited about?
YES. After years of brainstorming and dreaming, we’re finally releasing our debut 5-song EP on our anniversary - 12/28/25. It’s not just a release date - it’s a cosmic timestamp. A portal.
This project is a declaration of true love, rebellion, and sacred union. We manifested each other into existence with the full intention to create art that rips veils and rewires hearts. We’re here for the misfits, the mystics, the rage-filled healers; the ones who never quite fit into the clean lines of the system. (Forever channeling the great Freddie Mercury).
We are so honored to share our message with you, and hope you'll join our movement with us!
