Feature: MAJORS Decodes “Etiquette”
What was the creative process like for this particular song?
Like most of our songs, it starts with an absurd idea and we add lyrics that fit with that, but most importantly, make us all chuckle. The song is about playing a round of golf with a horrible person and it gets pretty silly.
I am in Charleston, SC and the rest of the bank is in Ottawa, ON Canada so the creative process means bouncing a lot of ideas off each other over voice notes and recording software.
What was your favorite moment in making the music video?
This was our first time doing a music video that was this large of a production. We were also doing everything on a shoe-string budget. To see the planning that went into this come to life was incredible. We had a shot by shot schedule that we stuck to and it was great to see the cast and crew all work together to get this done. My favorite moment was setting up the night shot where we are dragging Brad's body over the hill in the moonlight. In the video, it's about 3 seconds long, but this shot took us about four hours to put together and it looks very cool.
How do you feel "Etiquette" represents your artistic identity?
It's just fun. We started this band with a ridiculous idea of making the music that we grew up listening to, but making it all about golf. An idea just so crazy that it might work, or, we are insane. Either way, we are having a ton of fun and it's really satisfying seeing others get on board with the madness.
Can you tell us more about you as a band?
Bricks and I were in a band called The Fully Down back in 2007. We stayed in touch throughout the years and always wanted to make more music together. We started going on a yearly golf trip and the idea for MAJORS was born on a tee box while we were waiting to play a hole.
"Wouldn't it be ridiculous if we made songs about this?" And then it just snowballed from there. In 2025, we were offered a show in Ottawa. We accepted the offer before even having a band that could do this. So, we had some work to do.
That is when Jeff, Jason, and Nate agreed to learn our songs and help us out with the show. It was such a good fit they agreed to join the band full time. We now have about 25 songs we’re working on for the next record and cannot be more excited for the future of the band.
What’s the most important message or feeling you want to convey through your music?
We're all getting older, and it's never too late to do what you love. It feels so good to be making music again, playing shows, and having the feeling again of 5 dudes working together towards a common goal. Fun, that is all that matters.
