Feature: Michellar Decodes “CROSSED”

Punk Head: “CROSSED” was created across San Francisco, Ukraine, and Romania. How did that international collaboration shape the final sound?

Michellar: The collaboration opened up a lot of possibilities sonically. When I find that perfect voice and that perfect production that fits the sound I have a vision of… across continents is just a mere geographical element. Sound travels so far and so fast…. The distance doesn’t really matter as long as the vision is there.

Punk Head: You described this track as coming from a deeply personal journey. Do you often start writing from raw emotion, or was this track a unique experience for you?

Michellar: The raw emotion is fuel for my songwriting in this instance. There are times when the emotion is captured in that exact moment or sometimes harvested from a memory of that moment. I believe I write from both spectrum of the zone.

Punk Head: What surprised you most about the recording process for this song?

Michellar: The vocals were a bit experimental in the beginning…. Only because it was a slower song. Changing the melodic structure and enhancing that with a beat created by my producer Marius….I was surprised how much intensity this song drives when given a whole new perspective.

Punk Head: You’ve said this is your final release of the year. Why was it important to end the year with a song like “CROSSED”?

Michellar: I’ve always like to dance the year away. It’s very liberating. It was important to feel loose, reckless and have a sense of abandonment of the past year and by this song I get to do that with grace and attitude.

Punk Head: How does “CROSSED” represent where you are right now as an artist compared to your earlier work?

Michellar: My sound has been moving towards a more experimental stage. The curiosity in perspectives is driving my sound to a territory where I like being surprised or afraid of what’s next. I need that to keep me going forward.

Music is like a deep ocean and I was small fish. Now… I have fully developed fins to swim a little stronger, play little more with other fish, and what not …in the big waves and the strong winds.

Punk Head: What themes or sounds do you feel yourself gravitating toward moving forward?

Michellar: I gravitating towards Country, Psychedelic and Pop. I enjoy all of the nuances of each genre. I plan to release an alternative country/folk album “ FAITHFUL” to coincide with the LENT season and also show the spiritual side of my upbringing.

I also plan to release a psychedelic single … a first track to an Ep I plan to release at the end of 2026.

For Pop, I am currently working on 3 tracks to release in the Summer. I have many songs in the near future that will hit the streaming platforms…. throughout the year and I am so grateful …for my audience who boosts my confidence and keeps me going. This is going to be my 3rd year coming…. I plan to bring it to all who have time to listen.

“CROSSED” is coming out on December 19th, 2025.
