Feature: Paul Louis Villani Decodes “Cathedral of the Dead God”
What inspired you to write the lyrics/music for "Cathedral of the Dead God?"
The song came from a fascination about potential collapse in blind faith.
Whether that’s religious, political, or personal.
It’s about that moment when a human being begins to question what faith actually is and face factual truths not forced beliefs or the societal structures embedded in our psych totrap us in a system of control.
Musically, I wanted a slow, cinematic build that erupts into a cataclysm, reflecting that emotional implosion.
What impact do you hope "Cathedral of the Dead God" will have on your audience?
I hope it unsettles them... in "nice" way.
I want people to feel drawn in by its atmosphere, then blindsided by its intensity.
It’s not meant to be a passive listen; it’s meant to leave a mark, to make you think about what you worship, why you worship it, and what happens when you wake up and realise all the lies and that everything is actually up to you and what happens is just life occurring around you randomly.
What was your favorite moment in making the music video?
At this stage in my career, music videos are purely a way for me to showcase song lyrics.
It annoys the proverbial hell out of me when people like songs but they have no idea what they mean or what the lyrics truly are.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
The sound of a band.
What being in a band on a stage looked like and writing songs.
They are the main reasons why I got drawn into being a musician.
Honestly, I walk through life now as an older man, fulfilling many roles and most of the time I do them well but only a couple of these are done by the person I truly live to be.
One of them is music.
That is when I am truly myself and happy.
Are there any upcoming projects or releases that you're particularly excited about?
Yeah!! The full EP The Other Side of Silence drops August 25th.
It’s a six-track journey across multiple genres, from gritty rock to atmospheric soundscapes. Cathedral of the Dead God is only one chapter; the rest of the record pushes deeper into intensity, philosophy, raw emotion and rock/metal chaos and mayhem.
