Sabrina Nejmah On the Making Of “Deep End”

What was the creative process like for this particular single?

My father came up with some jazzy chord progressions in a jam session with me one evening and we started to invent a catchy melody in our home studio. We thought it sounded like "another this, another that", so we had the idea of lyrics that describe the feeling of living in a relationship that is full of arbitrariness. Everyday the same, just superficiality, some jokes, but nothing that feels real. Something you want to break free off. My father is playing bass in several jazz bands in Hamburg. He finalized the music and lyrics, and I did my Interpretation on it. The creative process was completed in our producer's recording studio. He matched up with us very well.

Can you describe the emotions or feelings you hope "Deep End" evokes in listeners?

Some listeners told me that they have their own interpretation of the lyrics and that it touches them. This is more than I actually hoped. Most listeners just enjoy the chilling flow of the music and feel cozy and comfortable. I hope that people enjoy my music and that it creates positive vibes for them.

What did you enjoy most about making "Deep End?"

"Deep End" is my coming out as a singer and I am so excited about it. I enjoyed working with my father Norman Astor and the producer Markus Norwin Rummel. I am just 16 and it was an adventure for me to work with these guys on a very professional level. That was really cool. Now I am enjoying all the feedback I get from listeners from all over the world.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?

Well, I am still attending School, so, until now I have not been really pursuing a career in music. Now with this first song, I got some appetite. There will be two more songs to be released this year. Let's see.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

I listen a lot to singer-songwriters, especially women. Also, I got to hear a lot of music at home that young people do not encounter usually (laughs). I also get many ideas when travelling and meeting people.
