Feature: 唯美人形 Yubiningyou Decodes “秘密 Himitsu”

Punk Head: The concept of "living dolls" is central to Yubiningyou. What does this identity mean to you emotionally and philosophically as artists?

唯美人形 Yubiningyou: We believe that a performer is someone who lets go of their own ego and devotes their body and soul to the existence known as "Beauty."
Dolls possess no ego. Because of that innocence, dolls harbor a universality that transcends eras and cultures.

For a human being to use their life to approach that state of egolessness... that is what it means to become a doll.

Punk Head: "Himitsu" translates to "Secret." What kind of secret is depicted in this track?

唯美人形 Yubiningyou: The "secret" depicted in this song is a ritual quietly exchanged and performed between two people.

It is also the ecstasy of melting together with everything within the endless darkness that spreads out beyond that ritual.

Punk Head: You describe your sound as "Modern Japanese Chanson-Rock." How would you define this genre in your own words?

唯美人形 Yubiningyou: To us, "Modern Japanese Chanson-Rock" is a term that describes an attitude rather than a genre.

While cherishing the resonance and sentiment of Japanese literature, we place the "storytelling" and "narrative" aspects characteristic of Chanson at the very center of our singing.

Punk Head: Visually, there is a delicate, doll-like quality, while the music is heavy and symphonic. What attracts you to the tension between this fragility and power?

唯美人形 Yubiningyou: Connecting things that are polar opposites is one of Yubiningyou's major themes.
Stillness and motion. Light and shadow. Eros and Thanatos. The ephemeral moment and eternity. In Yubiningyou's songs, these elements are always occurring simultaneously.

Punk Head: Darkness plays a key role in your aesthetic. What do you think people misunderstand about darkness in art?

唯美人形 Yubiningyou: That darkness is also a primary color.

We believe that darkness is not the absence of light, but rather a single, powerful color in itself.
