Head Sound On the Making Of “Hyperion”

What was the creative process like for this particular song?

The song was started in one basement and finished in another. Stewbie wrote the song on an out-of-tune guitar while dog sitting in a basement. Richard, Aiden, and Phil added their parts, and it was recorded in Phil’s parents’ basement.

How did you approach the arrangement and composition of the music for "Hyperion?"

It felt like such a straight forward indie song, so a lot of time was spent sonically roughing it up a bit. We added many layers of noisy guitars. Phil added a great tambourine track.

Is there a particular message or theme you hope listeners take away from "Hyperion?"

Even the greatest things start somewhere; the tallest tree from a small seed. Love is like this.

Can you tell us more about you as a band?

We are four friends making the best music we can together. Hopefully making the kinds of songs we would listen to.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they impacted your own sound?

My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Sigur Ros, Brian Eno, and Radiohead. This music informs ours in many ways, such as lush walls of sounds, and meticulous melodies.
