Hugarró On the Making Of ‘Andvarp’

Can you talk about any specific themes or motifs that run throughout 'Andvarp?'

All of us in the band have deep roots in the Icelandic punk scene, and that spirit definitely carries through the album. We try to keep things lighthearted and fun, not taking ourselves too seriously, even when the music touches on heavier emotions. It’s all about finding that balance between raw honesty and not losing the joy in making music together.

What impact do you hope 'Andvarp' will have on your audience?

We hope the album connects with people on a real level, whether it's through the energy, the emotion, or just a catchy melody that sticks with them. If someone walks away from a listen feeling moved, or even experiencing a little eargasm, then we’ve done our job.

Can you talk about any standout tracks on the album and what makes them special to you?

I think “Muldrarinn” holds a special place for us. It was one of two tracks we added late in the process, replacing a couple of songs that just weren’t working. Looking back, that was definitely the right call. I think “Muldrarinn” helped tie everything together in a way that felt much more true to who we are.

What is your creative vision as a band?

We aim to make albums that feel complete, no fillers, or at least not bad ones. Every track should stand on its own and still fit the bigger picture. Andvarp is a great example of that. Even if it has its rough edges, it’s something we spent two years crafting, and as our debut, we stand behind it fully. We don’t release anything we wouldn’t proudly play live.

What do you enjoy the most about being musicians?

What we enjoy most is that there’s no finish line. You can always grow, improve, and gain more experience.
