James Zero Releases “YOU'RE A GHOST”
Tell us about the key contributors to this project. Who were the main individuals involved? How did you meet, and how did their contributions help shape the release
My new song, "YOU'RE A GHOST", was written, produced, mixed, and mastered by me. I played all of the instruments (drums, bass, guitar, vocals) and did everything myself... except for one thing, I did get some help from fellow and rising guitarist, RJ Pasin. I knew RJ before he blew up and he we worked on a ton of stuff together, and this is one of the things we worked on. He did a lot of the lead guitar stuff, especially the licks in the beginning. Who influenced this release? Are there specific artists who inspired your work on this release? If so, please share how their influence is reflected in your music.
This is a single to my upcoming album, "early2thou" - which as you might've guessed is influenced by the sounds of the early 2000s. This is more aligned with the bands I grew up listening to like blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Thursday, and Dashboard Confessional. Any band from that era, really.
What was unique about the recording process? We're interested in any creative techniques or innovative methods you used in recording, producing, or mixing this release.
One interesting thing about this song is that while it's classic nostalgic pop punk, the vocals have an autotuned flair with vocoder behind them which is kind of a modern spin on things.

Yes, I would like to highlight the fact that I've teamed up with Watchers.USA, a videography and arts company, and shot a professional music video that will be coming out on YouTube on Friday, May 23rd (If passed May 23rd, I will provide the link)
Is there anything additional that would be valuable for curators to know? Any other details that might help curators understand the depth and context of your work would be appreciated.
1. In 2021, I released my debut album, "Oceans (& Other Bodies of Water)". It was more indie singer songwriter and very easy listening, almost r&b at times. In 2024, I released the live version of the album. This song I'm submitting, "YOU'RE A GHOST", is part of a lead up to the eventual release for my 2nd album, "early2thou", which will come out at the end of this year. 2. Every year, I do a show on YouTube called "James Zero & the Heroes" with my band - where we play covers of songs we enjoy plus my originals. We stream it live on pre-determined dates that we advertise in advance. We didn't get to do one last year, mainly because I was working on the album.
