John Lebanon Releases “Mizuri”

Boston-based indie group John Lebanon, featuring Roy, Matt, Jihad, and Deluccia, blend indie, folk, and pop into heartfelt songs that explore memory, emotion, and self-discovery. Known for their evocative energy and memorable harmonies, the indie Folk band is set to release their new single “Mizuri” on August 22, 2025, marking a significant creative milestone.

“Mizuri” is an emotional tribute wrapped in a haunting melody and honest reflection, inspired by themes of faith, impermanence, and resilience. The track began with Matt’s verse, written while he was a student at UMass and drawn from his experience navigating a conservative upbringing. It evolved through Roy’s writing, influenced by Japanese storytelling and manga, capturing both struggle and beauty side by side.

The single also features the debut of Gaby Carvajal Poisson as a vocalist with the band, adding a unique softness to their sound. This is the closest collaboration yet between Roy and Deluccia, with live drums by Michael, PRS Custom guitar, and layered keyboards. Shakers were recorded in stereo movement to create a dynamic, immersive texture.

Mixing was done by Roy with Alex Krepikh, with mastering to complete the production. “Mizuri” carries a soaring chorus, a distinctive transitional riff, and lyrics that explore breaking free from despair and finding hope where none seemed possible.

The name “Mizuri,” meaning “Missouri” in Japanese, reflects the song’s central tension between identity and reinvention, old wounds and new beginnings. The band plans to release a full album later this year, which Roy describes as their best work to date.
