Ignorance to Enlightenment and Back Again is a kaleidoscopic sonic journey between the amplified, magnetic grunge, the lo-fi shoegazing psychedelics, and the juicy electronics. Mild Horses, aka Matthew Leuw takes you on an emotional roller coaster, from the highest high to the lowest low.
The album opens with a heated, dynamic statement in “Hotmail Viagra.” Like a storm that roars through the sky with its majesty, the track instantly carries you into its lo-fi, surreal swirls. Clashing percussion meets soaring guitar and Leuw’s cathartic vocal.
“Somewhere,” being the longest track makes its mid-album appearance. The track transforms and vibrates between the ethereal, hypnotic low to a noise-fused, electrified sonic field while the familiar, captivating riff draws you into a trance. “Somewhere” is a song that you can really sink into.
“Failing Upwards” again turns the volume up with clashing drums and noisy overtones. The sounds that were brewing in the background were simply fantastic and full of imagery. The main vocal is cold and slightly detached, creating a very windy, landscape-like texture filled with harmonies.
“Get Outta Here” feels like the rush of heat that instantly brighten the day with warmth. It adheres Mild Horses’ lo-fi style that gives it a very special feel. Ignorance to Enlightenment and Back Again concludes with a delightful experiment, mending all the elements in one track.
