Review: Alwyn Morrison’s “Turn All the Lights On” Is Pop Medicine

Even though it’s merely the beginning of his music journey, Alwyn Morrison already proves that he has a unique sonic signature does something to his listeners.

“Turn All The Lights On” is the kind of song that reveals more about itself the more you listen to it. The fifth track on Morrison’s debut EP Heartsplit pulls viewers into its emotionally immersive world that feels both inevitable and irresistible.

Structurally, the track does something wonderful, though it often goes overlooked.

“Turn All The Lights On” transcends you through the course of a song and leaves you in a better place than it found you. It offers a subtle but powerful listening experience that feels like medicine for the soul, and Morrison does it so gently and effectively that most of the time, you only feel the effect as it settles in your body.

“Turn All The Lights On” is less of a statement, more of an action. It stays within the song form, but transforms it with a build-up that doesn’t follow the typical rise and fall of chorus and verse. The music lifts its listeners energetically. The message and intention become the fuel for the song. It charges forward and achieves its goals.

Much like the rest of the EP, “Turn All The Lights On” is a blend of a heartfelt conversation and a hug that makes you feel recharged, understood, and safe. It’s vulnerable and authentic, but not overly explicit. “Turn All The Lights On” feels like it’s written by someone who genuinely wants to communicate and form a connection on a soul level, rather than someone who wants to rant — the world recognizes it. Within three months of the release of his debut single, Morrison garnered more than 1 million streams across platforms.

Musically, “Turn All The Lights On” is a lighthearted track about self-love and reconnecting to the joy in life even when the world seems dark. It serves as an introduction to his debut album, Heartsplit.

Filled with heartfelt lyrics, cathartic climaxes, and unstoppable momentum, the album is absolutely a must-listen.
