WOOF On the Making Of “Careless”
Punk Head: You’ve said your work is about embracing the shadow. What part of your own shadow appears most clearly in this song?
WOOF: I would say my grief. Making the song was very cathartic. I was able to work through some old feelings while building a new narrative of my experience.
Punk Head: How does your meditation and spiritual practice influence a track that’s as raw and turbulent as “Careless”?
WOOF: They’re a huge component! It’s kind of a balancing act. When I meditate I’m able to clear my mind of a lot external stress but come to center internally. It feels like a blank canvas. “Careless” is the when that canvas becomes painted with pure emotion.
Punk Head: Sonically, “Careless” sits between nostalgia and modern grit. How do you approach balancing those eras in your production?
WOOF: I love 80’s dark wave and new wave in general. It’s been a big influence on me over the past couple of years. My goal as a musician is to pay homage to the sound while simultaneously updating it for this modern era. It’s all about paying respect to the predecessor.
Punk Head: What was the hardest line in the song to write?
WOOF: On the side of your bed, feeling empty. The thoughts I’m resenting.
Punk Head: The guitars feel intentionally distorted and imperfect. What emotional truth were you chasing in that sonic decision?
WOOF: I enjoy the grit when it comes to music. I believe that a lot of classics have imperfections in general. It gives a genuine touch. In a world where everything is becoming copy, paste, perfect I much prefer the honesty of the art.
Punk Head: What can listeners expect from the next chapter of WOOF? More rage, more reflection, or something completely unexpected?
WOOF: Definitely more world building. I want to give my fans an experience going into 2026. Something immersive they can find and lose themselves into.
