How The Whispering Captured Lightning in a French Château

Punk Head: You’re debuting with some of the heaviest hitters in metal—how does it feel to be the “newcomer” leading veterans like Dirk Verbeuren and Loic Colin?

Lucian Fhor (The Whispering): Nice to connect and thank you for the questions and for supporting the music of The Whispering.

I am honored to be creating music with Dirk, Loic, and Tobias. Their recognition has brought even deeper resolve, and their mastery allows me the freedom to take chances and play dangerously.

Conjuring this lineup felt like whispering a vision to the universe and receiving thunderous affirmation!

Punk Head: Your music opens with whisperings that feel like a ritual—if someone walked into your world for the first time, what would they be hearing beyond the notes?

Lucian Fhor (The Whispering): When I walk through the forest, I am surrounded by whispers and subtle signs of wisdom. If you listen closely and observe the chaos in the silence, an awakening emerges. Beneath the noise and mind chatter, there is deep insight. For most, the message is obscured, but for some who can hear the song on the wind, the secrets are in plain sight.

Our world is a walk through the forest, an invocation of stillness, scryings, and shadow.

Punk Head: The visual motif of witches, evil eyes, and whispers suggests a hidden universe. Is there a story or mythology that binds this debut together, or is it meant to feel like a dream you stumble into?

Lucian Fhor (The Whispering): I have always been drawn to the mythology of the dark coven, ritual, and smoke rising from the trees. For me, the fear of the dark often holds more illusion than the darkness itself. We’re all stumbling through spirituality and soul, I find peace in the alchemy of darkness and luminescence.

Punk Head: Heavy metal often celebrates rebellion—your lyrics speak of awakening souls. Do you see yourself as a preacher of chaos, a prophet of metal, or something stranger entirely?

Lucian Fhor (The Whispering): I am no preacher nor prophet. I have no divine insight beyond my own self-reflection.

The world is increasingly narrowing its vision and actively numbing its collective senses.

I only wish to convey whether the excitement and freedom I feel when in the music. The Lyrics and themes I share are reflections of my own journey, what I stand for. Human and animal rights are inherent to our survival. The planet's health goes hand in hand with our own.

These are concepts befallen us all.

Punk Head: After decades performing for audiences in tents, arenas, and festivals worldwide, what was it like to harness all that live spectacle into a studio recording without losing that primal energy?

Lucian Fhor (The Whispering): It’s challenging to recreate those moments of freedom and flow that come from the collective energy of a performance.

Recording this music was in itself an unpredictable adventure. The excitement was palpable as we each came from different continents to meet up at a chateau in the French countryside.

It was the first time we played the songs together, and the uncertain atmosphere made for a sharply channeled performance.

It was magical, and I feel we captured it in the music.
