Daniall Lee On the Making Of “Good 4 U”
What is the inspiration behind it?
"At the time I was writing ‘Good 4 U’, it just fell out of me and I wasn’t really conscious of what inspired it musically, but looking back, it seems obvious that it was coming from a ‘Noughties Indie’ kind of place.
"I don’t usually explain my lyrics as I think people should find their own meaning in the words, but I wrote it as a reaction against TV talent shows and that brand of celebrity culture they promote."
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "Good 4 U?"
"I record alone, so as much as I enjoy the creative process, there are not usually many entertaining moments. Perhaps the thing I remember most about that session was having the idea to put the synths in, which I hadn’t planned to do, but they really transformed the song."
What impact do you hope "Good 4 U" will have on your audience?
"This is a song that’s going to move you physically rather than emotionally. It’s a classic Indie Banger that you can really bounce along to. Maybe it’ll end-up on a few exercise playlists!"
What has been the most memorable experience or achievement in your music career so far?
"When I was 12, I got to perform on stage with Belle & Sebastian, which was an incredible experience and convinced me that this was what I wanted to do with my life.
"I’m still only a few months into my professional career, but already I’ve played at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, which was a bit of a ‘bucket list’ item for me. And then last week I made my first TV appearance – A live-streamed music show called The Honey Box, which was up there with the best days I’ve had so far."
What do you enjoy most being a musician?
"Live performance, which is a licence to show-off in a way real life doesn’t allow you to!"
