Feature: Simon Romain Jean Decodes “Touch the flame”

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Touch the flame?"

Two things:

1st simply put, the love for my wife. We’ve been 20 years together, through flames and through heavens.

2nd: Sacha the guitar player who asked me if I was looking for musicians when I was recording in his facility. We played together and the spark ignited. This is love as well, we share a strong bond and the same "groove" and sense of time.

How do you feel this song represents your artistic identity?

It’s talks about the deep hard stuff and has a strong sense that life is definitely worth it with love. You’d have to fight for it though!

What did you enjoy most about making this single?

Recording live with audience in front of us the studio.

And this song is actually the VERY last take of the last song we recorded during the session.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?

I’ve played music for more than 80% of my life… and increasing. Since teenage I knew I wanted to write songs. Just took me some years to find the right people and the right songs :)

Apart from that I’ve lived in crazy places like South Boston in the 90’s, Berlin and Capetown working with colored victims of violence.

Life and love can be f….ng hard but it’s f…ng real!

What do you enjoy most about performing live and connecting with your audience?

The light in the eyes of the audience, sharing strong bond for an hour or two and vibrating with people inside the music. I guess it can heal or help people go through « stuff » we all meet one day or the other.
